Our WHY

We believe Public Safety Personnel, Military members, Veterans, and their families deserve to wake up each day feeling connected, anchored, and empowered with the tools, resources, courage, and confidence to navigate life's challenges with resilience and growth.

At The Haven, we create the conditions where people, relationships, and communities can strengthen connection, cultivate trust, build resilience, and discover lasting wellbeing together.

Every person who serves deserves a place where they can reconnect with themselves, their families, and their communities.

Every day, Public Safety Personnel and Military members encounter experiences that place extraordinary demands on the human nervous system, relationships, and overall wellbeing.

Research indicates that approximately 0% of First Responders experience PTSD during their careers, with many others navigating operational stress injuries, anxiety, depression, moral injury, and cumulative stress. These experiences also shape the lives of spouses, children, colleagues, and communities.

Our Mission

Together, we create the conditions where Public Safety Personnel, Military members, Veterans, and their families strengthen connection, cultivate resilience, discover purpose, and contribute to thriving families, organizations, and communities.

  1. 01

    Connection

Connection creates the foundation for wellbeing. We cultivate spaces where Public Safety Personnel, Military members, Veterans, families, and communities feel welcomed, valued, and heard. Through meaningful relationships, shared experiences, and a sense of belonging, we strengthen the connections that support people throughout every stage of life.

  2. 02

    Collaboration

Every person brings valuable experience, knowledge, and perspective. We bring together individuals, families, peers, clinicians, researchers, organizations, and community partners to learn from one another, share practical wisdom, and create solutions that strengthen the wellbeing of the communities we serve.

  3. 03

    Growth

Growth flourishes in the right conditions. We create environments that inspire curiosity, build confidence, and encourage lifelong learning. As new knowledge, research, and relationships emerge, our community continues to grow stronger together, expanding the opportunities available to every person we serve.

A message from our founder

Creating the conditions where people can thrive.

During more than eighteen years in policing, Dr. Michelle Vincent witnessed the extraordinary courage, dedication, and humanity of those who serve. She also came to understand that wellbeing grows through the environments we create, the relationships we cultivate, and the communities we build together.

The Haven was founded on the belief that Public Safety Personnel, Military members, Veterans, and their families deserve opportunities to strengthen connection, build resilience, and discover the confidence, tools, and support that allow them to navigate life's challenges and continue growing throughout every stage of life.

Every conversation, every program, every partnership, and every act of service contributes to creating the conditions where individuals, families, organizations, and communities can flourish together.

Our History · Maison La Vigile

A vision that continues to inspire.

In the 1980s, Québec Police Officer Jacques Denis Simard recognized the unique challenges experienced by Public Safety Personnel and the importance of receiving support within a community that truly understood the realities of service. His vision led to the creation of Maison La Vigile, a pioneering centre dedicated to the wellbeing of Emergency Service Workers.

Built on trust, shared understanding, and evidence-informed care, Maison La Vigile demonstrated the profound value of creating environments where healing, learning, and growth could flourish alongside peers who shared lived experience. Over the years, this vision earned the confidence of Québec's mental health professionals, insurers, associations, and the Public Safety community it continues to serve.

The therapeutic care provided to Emergency Service Workers is most effective when delivered amongst Peers.

Maison La Vigile became more than a place. It became an enduring example of what is possible when we create the conditions where people feel safe, understood, and connected.

That vision continues to inspire The Haven as we carry this work forward, strengthening individuals, families, organizations, and communities through connection, belonging, and lifelong wellbeing.
